WHO WEARE
SKATEL Communications is a telecommunications service provider based in Edmonton, Alberta. Ten service lines, run by our own crews out of a yard in Acheson.
The company works across fibre and copper splicing, aerial and buried cable placement, rod and rope, directional drilling, civil, utility locating, MxU construction, installation and repair, rural internet and satellite, and bucket-truck work. The crews below are the ones that do it, and the equipment listed with them is the equipment they run.

SAFETY ANDQUALITY CONTROL
A comprehensive internal safety program, and a specialist whose only job is the paperwork that closes a build. Zero safety-related incidents or vehicle accidents in five years.
ASSESSED DAILY
Technicians complete mandatory safety assessments for vehicles and for each job site, before work starts.
EVERY VEHICLE EQUIPPED
Occupational Health and Safety manuals, required safety equipment, fire extinguishers and first aid kits, in every company vehicle.
GPS TRACKED
Every vehicle carries GPS tracking, for crew safety and for operational oversight.
REVIEWED BEFORE SUBMISSION
A dedicated QC specialist reviews every completion document for accuracy and completeness before it reaches the client.
THE CREWSAND WHAT THEY RUN
Six crews, each with its own equipment and its own record. Larger drilling scopes bring in established partner contractors across Alberta and British Columbia.
Rod and rope

A six-member team, experienced and well equipped, handling complex and demanding projects. Every technician is fully trained in confined-space operations and carries the safety gear and field support equipment the work needs.

Splicing

Fibre optic and copper splicing across MxU, residential and commercial infrastructure, with a proven record on each. Testing is part of the job rather than a step after it.

Cable placement

Fibre optic, copper, coaxial and CAT5 cabling, placed aerial, buried and in-duct. Completed work includes residential fibre drops, MPT and MxU terminal installations, service cabling for MxU units, and Opterna, FET3, IFDH and FDH placements for residential and commercial customers.

Utility locating

A dedicated locating team of five experienced technicians, providing locate services throughout Edmonton and the surrounding areas and supporting ELC operations through our client partnerships.

Directional drilling and civil

An in-house drilling crew supporting drop and mainline installations, with established partnerships across Alberta and British Columbia for larger projects. Numerous builds completed with zero reportable incidents. The in-house civil team performs the tie-ins, vault installations and pedestal placements that finish them.

Utility Safety Partners
The Utility Safety Partners designation for contractors registered to perform locates in Alberta. SKATEL's five locate technicians work under it, across Edmonton and the surrounding areas.
